ENVY
Envy by Yuri Olesha
Envy is a project which began in 2018 in a rather unexpected way. A group of artists got together to jam, with no other pretext. I happened to bring up a Soviet-era novella to a colleague and they immediately demanded a copy. I lent it, and two weeks later we were having deep, and very silly, discussions about a truly wonderful piece of literature.
The jam sessions which had been organized proceeded as planned, but with a slight focus to them where we were seeking images based on this text and the energetic connection of reflections and light.
The sketches below represent an approximation of the shapes that were built over the course of those experiments.
The adaptation received a workshop in early 2019 in a private setting, and is still looking for a permanent production track.
